LAWRENCE, Kan. – After sweeping Tabor to start the homestand on March 10, the Baker tennis teams went on to host four matches in a five-day span with the men's squad winning three out of four at the Genesis Lawrence South complex in Lawrence, Kan.
The Wildcat women picked up their second straight win of the week with a 3-2 victory over Grand View on Friday to start the weekend. Abbie Linn (7-5, 6-4), Clare Langfoss (6-0, 6-2) and Jordan Grabast (6-3, 6-4) each came out on top of their singles matches against the Vikings.
The men's team finished off the back-to-back sweeps for BU with a 6-1 victory over GVU and followed it up with a hard-fought win over John Brown on Saturday.
The Wildcats defeated the Golden Eagles by a score of 4-3 with Juan Manuel Avila (6-3, 6-1), Immo Ferger (6-3, 6-3), River Flaska (6-3, 6-1) and Carlos Alcala (6-4, 6-4) all picking up wins for BU.
After coming out on the wrong end of another close battle on Sunday to Missouri Valley (4-3), the Wildcats completed their strong stretch with a dominating 6-1 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan on Tuesday.
Avila (6-0, 4-6, 10-8), Ferger (6-2, 7-5) and Alcala (6-2, 6-2) each tacked on another singles win to their Spring Break tally, while Arturo Nunez (7-6, 6-0) and Porter Lee (2-6, 7-5, 10-8) both came out victorious in their matches.
On Monday, Avila was named the Heart Men's Tennis Player of the Week after posting a 6-2 record in his matches last week.
Baker closes out the mid-March homestand with matches against Southwestern on Friday, March 21 at 4 p.m. at Genesis Lawrence South. The Wildcats will then head out on the road on Saturday, March 22 to face Bethel at 2 p.m. in Newton, Kan.
