17th-Ranked Wildcats Square Off against Eagles in Conference Clash

BALDWIN CITY – Looking to keep its perfect home record intact, No. 17 Baker plays host to Central Methodist for a Heart South matchup on Saturday in Baldwin City.

Coming off the bye week last week, the Wildcats took care of business on the road with a big 67-28 victory at William Woods. BU ran for a season-high 326 yards and got a big lift from its special teams with two blocked punts in the game, one that went for a safety and the other that resulted in a touchdown. Gabe Martin led the team with 20 carries for 114 yards and a touchdown, while Truman Jueslgaard scored three times on the ground, finishing with seven carries for 89 yards.

For the second straight week, Baker kicker Seth Simpson was named Heart Special Teams Player of the Week after going a perfect 11-for-11 on his kicks on Saturday against the Owls, drilling three field goals, including a 44-yarder late in the third quarter, and converting all eight of his extra-point attempts.

With a 3-0 record at home this year, the Wildcats have outscored opponents, 139-33 inside Liston Stadium with a couple of blowout victories against St. Ambrose (52-0) and Culver-Stockton (61-7). BU completed a second-half comeback to defeat Missouri Valley, 26-16 earlier this month in its previous home game.

Central Methodist comes into the matchup winless on the season (0-7, 0-2) with all three of its road losses coming in the month of September. The Eagles fell to No. 2 Grand View, 42-7 last week, but held the Vikings to seven points in the first quarter. Dawan Lomax leads CMU in rushing with 97 carries for 302 yards and two touchdowns, going over 100 yards in back-to-back games against Clarke (102) and Missouri Valley (118).

Saturday's game will be the 50th meeting between the two programs with Baker leading the all-time series, 35-14. The Wildcats have won 16 of the last 17 games with wins in back-to-back games against CMU.

Kickoff is at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 from Don Parker Field and Liston Stadium. The Wildcats will honor the 1986 football team as Baker's inaugural Team of Distinction.

A live stream of the game can be found on The Heart Conference Network and live stats for the game are available here.
