Dokolas Earns Top-Five Finish, Baker Hosts the NAIA West Regionals I & II

Lawrence/Topeka, Kan. – Baker bowling hosted its second tournament of the 2024-25 season this past weekend in Lawrence and Topeka, Kan. where the Wildcats came away with a couple of top-10 finishes on both days.

The BU women began the first of the two home tournaments in ninth place with a total pinfall of 4,067. The Wildcats posted game totals of 855, 701, 839, 803, and 869 through five team games to close out their Saturday.

Once again, sophomore Kaleigh Buckalew led the Wildcats individually. She finished in 26th, with a five-game series of 859 for a 171 average. The next highest finisher for the Wildcats was Audrey Valdez, who averaged 165 to finish 32nd.

The Wildcat men struggled during the first tournament, finishing in the middle of the pack in 10th with a total pinfall of 4,597. The Wildcats posted team totals of 912, 836, 939, 946, and 964 to finish the tournament.

Freshman PJ Dokolas, last week's Men's Heart Bowler of the Week, had another strong outing, finishing fifth individually. He averaged 209 on the day, with a high game of 234 in game 3. The next highest finisher for the men was Josh King, who finished 52nd, averaging 173.

On Sunday, the teams competed in the second tournament of the weekend. Qualifying consisted of 25 baker games, with total pinfall determining the final standings. The women struggled on the weekend, posting totals of 829, 836, 844, 853, and 926 for a total pinfall of 4,288 to finish in ninth.

On the men's side, they had a stronger day on the lanes, posting a total pinfall of 4,892 with set totals of 1164, 991, 933, 908, and 896. The men finished the second tournament in sixth and were the second highest-placed Heart of America Conference school behind William Penn by 198 pins.

Both teams will return to the lanes on February 15th and 16th as they travel to Indianapolis, Ind. to compete in the Hoosier Classic.
