Baker Athletics To Add Women's Flag Football in the Fall of 2023

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Athletic Director Susan Decker announced on Wednesday that Baker University will add Women's Flag Football to their list of sports for the 2023-24 school year, bringing their total to 26 sports.

"Baker University athletics is very excited to add women's flag football into our family," Athletic Director Susan Decker said. "This new program will help Baker continue to grow and will continue to move the University forward."

Baker University will compete at the NAIA level in women's flag football and will join 19 other schools within the NAIA to participate. The NAIA, in partnership with the National Football League and Reigning Champs Experiences launched women's flag football on May 4, 2020.

Of those 19 schools, Baker will be the fifth in the state of Kansas and will be just the second school currently in the Heart of America Athletic Conference to join. Becoming the fifth school to join in the state of Kansas makes Kansas tied with Florida for the state with the most schools to participate in NAIA women's flag football.

The women's flag football season will be held in the spring and last year's women's flag finals were held in Atlanta, Ga., hosted at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, home of the Atlanta Falcons. Women's flag is currently an emerging sport in the NAIA. An emerging sport in the NAIA is defined as at least 15 participating institutions, while invitational can be defined as at least 25. A sport must have a minimum of 40 participating institutions to be considered for full championship status.

Baker University will hire a women's flag football coach this year to begin recruiting and will begin a national search immediately. To view the job posting, CLICK HERE!
