Johnson & Bollefer Combine for Three Home Runs as Wildcats Defeat Kansas Christian, 10-6

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Behind two home runs from Brennan Johnson and a home run from Chris Bollefer, the Baker baseball team picked up a non-conference win on Wednesday evening, defeating Kansas Christian, 10-6.

The Wildcats had five different people collect at least one hit in the game, while Johnson (3-for-4), Bollefer (2-for-2), and Michael Meyers (2-for-2) each had multi-hit games. Clayton Detherage got the start on the mound for Baker, going five strong innings, allowing just three hits. Jake Miller, Erich Pouch, Jacob Ewell, Eden Schimmel and Brayden Youkon all combined to pitch the final four innings as Youkon picked up the save.

Baker jumped out to an early lead, scoring six total runs in the first inning, scoring three runs on two walks and a wild pitch before Chris Bollefer hit a huge three-run bomb to dead center to make it 6-0.

With two outs in the bottom of the second inning, Brennan Johnson added to that lead with a solo home run to left field, followed by an RBI single from Javier Aguirre in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 9-0.

Bollefer then picked up another RBI in the bottom of the fourth on a sac-fly and Johnson then tacked on another run with his second home run of the game in the bottom of the sixth to give Baker a commanding 10-0 lead.

In the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, the Falcons were able to score six runs to cut the lead to 10-6, but Youkon came into the game and shut the door to earn the save and give Baker the 10-6 win.

Baker moves to 18-25 on the season. They will play their final home game on Friday evening at 5 p.m., as they host Avila for Senior Night.
