Pogue, Young Earn All-Conference Honors, Twillman Wins Gold Glove

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - After securing a program-record fifth straight trip to the conference tournament, Baker baseball had a pair of players named to the 2024 Heart Baseball All-Conference Teams and a Gold Glove winner as the league announced its postseason honors on Thursday.

BU ace Caden Pogue was selected to the All-Conference Second Team, while junior slugger Eli Young earned honorable mention honors. Additionally, Tanner Twillman was named to the Heart's Gold Glove team.

Pogue was a top-five pitcher in the Heart this season with his ERA of 2.99 ranking fifth in the conference, while tossing the third-most innings amongst league arms with 75.1 innings pitched in 2024. The junior from Stillwater, Okla. went 5-5 in his 12 starts for BU and totaled 60 strikeouts and six complete games, including opening up Heart play with three straight complete-game winners.

Young, a junior from Gilbert, Ariz., led the team in slugging (.623), home runs (11) and RBI (44) and finished off the regular season with an incredible tear that saw him bang out seven home runs in the final six games, including back-to-back multi-homer games against Avila. He recorded two grand slams this year with a go-ahead slam against Missouri Valley back in early March and his second one coming against the Eagles.

Becoming Baker's first Gold Glove winner in three years, Twillman received the honor after playing in 49 games as the Wildcats' center fielder, tallying 134 putouts and three assists, while recording just one error on the season. The senior from Olathe, Kan. is the first BU player to win the award since former Wildcat Bailey Pattin won as a shortstop in 2021.

Closing out the regular season this past weekend, The Wildcats finished off a 2024 regular season that saw them go 20-29 overall and eclipse the 20-win mark for the third straight year.

As the No. 5 seed, Baker opens up with its first game of the Heart Baseball Conference Championships with the weather pushing its matchup against No. 4 Park to 5 p.m. this evening at the Ozark Mountain Sports Complex in Ozark, Mo.
