Former Wildcat Treinen Wins Second World Series with Dodgers

LOS ANGELES - Former Wildcats pitcher Blake Treinen clinched his second World Series title with the Los Angeles Dodgers, delivering an incredible Game 5 performance that saw the Dodgers finish off their championship run over the New York Yankees with a 7-6 victory on Wednesday night.

Treinen entered in relief in three of the five World Series games, including Wednesday's finale where he earned the series-clinching win after tossing 2.1 scoreless innings and helping preserve the Dodgers' one-run lead.

Growing up less than an hour away from Baldwin City in Osage City, Kan., Treinen came to Baker in the fall of 2007 and played one season on the Wildcat baseball team before transferring to the University of Arkansas as a full-time student and eventually finishing out his collegiate career playing at South Dakota State.

"I'll forever be grateful for the opportunity provided by coach Phil Hannon and Baker University to help start me down my journey," said Treinen. "They were the ones that gave me my first shot."

Drafted in 2011, Treinen reached the big leagues in the spring of 2014 with the Washington Nationals and has appeared in almost 500 games over his 10-year career. He won his first championship with the Dodgers in 2020, picking up a save in Game 5 of that series.

"What a baseball dream for Blake, I am very proud of him," said former BU baseball coach Phil Hannon. "He went from pitching in a Legion program at Emporia, KS where Ryan Oden, my pitching coach at the time, shared with me he would like to recruit a project. That project turned out to be a two-time World Series champion."
