MARSHALL, Mo. - Baker baseball took all four games in its regular-season finale, earning a four-game sweep at Missouri Valley earlier this week to finish the regular season with a 24-22 record.
With the weather-adjusted series being moved up, the Wildcats won both games on Wednesday by a score of 9-5 and 11-4 before coming back with wins of 8-2 and 15-5 on Thursday to sweep their final Heart of America regular-season matchup before next week's conference tournament.
BU 9, MVC 5
The Wildcats took game one in Marshall with a wire-to-wire victory, scoring five runs in the last two innings and keeping the MVC lineup at bay for a majority of the game.
BU starting pitcher Camden Karlin turned in a solid outing, recording eight strikeouts and allowing just two runs in his six innings of work. He held MVC to just one hit through the first three innings.
A two-run single from Tyson Wallace spotted the 'Cats a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before the Vikings scratched one back in the bottom half in their first trip to the plate. Wallace scored on an error in the fourth and a sac fly by Chris Bollefer made it a 4-1 lead.
Bollefer drove in another run in the sixth after an RBI double by Jackson Truman and Jon Jenkins sealed the victory with a three-run home run in the seventh.
BU 11, MVC 4
A six-run explosion in the sixth propelled the Wildcats to a commanding 11-4 win in Wednesday's nightcap to notch back-to-back wins in the first two games of the series.
Wallace and Eli Young each tallied three RBI in the game with Wallace lacing a couple of doubles and Young extending BU's lead out in the sixth with a two-run single.
An RBI single from Kolden Howerton gave the Wildcats an initial lead before the Vikings tied it up in the second. BU went in front again with Young and Wallace each driving in their first runs of the game, only to have MVC take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth.
After BU tied the game in the fifth, the huge sixth inning started with Howerton scoring on a ball in play from Karlin and then Wallace followed Young's single with a two-run double before Jackson Truman and Javier Aguirre capped the scoring by driving in the final two runs.
BU 8, MVC 2
On Thursday, the Wildcats once again turned a small lead into a comfortable win with five runs in the last two innings to take game three, 8-2.
Tyler Vigna (4 IP) and John Green (3 IP) combined to hold the Vikings to just two runs with Green pitching a scoreless final three innings of the game.
Karlin, Howerton and Jenkins all smashed a home run with Karlin's two-run bomb in the top of the second pushing BU ahead, 3-1. After MVC cut it to a one-run game, Howerton homered in the sixth to extend the lead back out and Jenkins garnished the win with a three-run blast in the seventh.
BU 15, MVC 5
Baker busted out a 15-run barrage in the series finale to complete the weekend sweep of the Vikings.
Karlin notched his second home run of the weekend and the Wildcats had eight total players drive in a run with multi-RBI outings from Karlin, Wallace, Jaidon Bowers and Seth Brown.
Ty Clark allowed only one earned run in his three innings of work in a combined bullpen game with Peyton Bowers, Vaughn Wells and Spencer McGuire all logging scoreless frames in relief.
The Wildcats finish off a 2025 regular season that saw them go 24-22 overall and 17-15 in conference play, winning 12 of their last 14 games to go into postseason play with some momentum.
With the results, Baker locked up the No. 6 seed for the 2025 Heart of America Conference Baseball Tournament, which runs from May 1-5 at the Ozark Mountain Sports Complex in Ozark, Mo.
