Baker Dance Takes First at Baker Classic, Cheer Sixth on Senior Day

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – On a busy weekend for the Baker cheer and dance teams, the Baker dance team took first place in both competitions, while the cheer team took fifth and sixth place.

To start the weekend, both teams travelled up the road to Olathe, Kan., to compete in the MNU Invitational. The Baker dance team posted a score of 85.4 and defeated four other teams to take first place in the event. The Baker cheer team put together a score of 64.53 and took home fifth place.

On Saturday, the Wildcats hosted the 2023 Baker Classic. After each session, the team's recognized the seniors in their programs. On the dance team, the Wildcats recognized Emma Schneider and Alyssa Waller, while the cheer team recognized Alyssa Davis. These three seniors have played a vital role for the Baker cheer and dance teams and will be greatly missed.

In the dance competition, Baker was able to post a strong score of 89.8, taking first place and defeating every other team by at least three points. The Baker cheer team was able to then post a score of 62.77 in the cheer session of the competition, taking sixth place and defeating Peru State, Mount Mercy and Graceland.

Both teams will now travel to Marshall, Mo., on Feb. 18, to compete in the Heart of America Conference Championships.
