Esports Will Compete in First Competition on Sunday in the Rocket League Western Qualifier

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After announcing this last spring that Baker University will add Esports, the Esports program will begin its first competition on Sunday when they compete in the Collegiate Rocket League Western Qualifier 1 at 11 a.m.

"I'm very excited to get our first competitive match underway," head coach Toby Ebel said. "We are playing in the Collegiate Rocket League Qualifier on Sunday and our players are anxious to get their season going. This is all so new to us that we are uncertain how things will unfold, but regardless, we know it will be exciting and entertaining to watch."

Along with beginning play on Sunday, the Wildcats will also be competing in a weekly Rocket League tournament hosted by the University of Missouri and will consider joining the NACE Rocket League Collegiate Championships.

Other games that the Esports team will be competing in throughout the year include, Overwatch, Fortnite, Hearthstone, Smash Bros, League of Legends, Apex Legends and CS:GO. The Wildcats have been practicing with these games weekly and will begin competing in these games very soon.

All of Baker University's Esports matches will be broadcast on their Twitch.TV livestream for all fans to follow. To view Baker University's Twitch.TV Livestream please CLICK HERE.

Baker University will also be hosting some live events where local audiences can come and watch the team compete on the big screen.

"With all of the amazing support and interest the Baker faculty, staff, students and alumni have shown so far, we hope to put on a good show and let everyone in on a little secret we have known for quite some time: competitive Esports is here to stay."
