Wildcats Rank First in Midwest Region Heading into Fortnite Fall League Playoffs

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After a recalculation of the points, the Baker Fortnite team of Jack Rummell (Jraum) and Owen Gonzales (Strafedon) currently ranked first within the Central Region heading into the playoffs.

Baker University (74 points) currently leads the region by three points over the Illinois Institute of Technology (71 points), who has a four-point lead over DePaul University (67 points). Central Methodist University (66 points) rounds out the top four in the Central Region.

"Our dedicated Fortnite freshmen duo of Jack Rummell and Owen Gonzales have really persevered through some interesting technical glitches during this tournament," head coach Toby Ebel said. "I'm extremely proud of them. To be first in our conference of over 30 schools, many of which are NCAA Division I schools says a lot about their skills. Luckily, they are just as funny as they are talented in Esports."

During the regular season, teams of two played two matches per week and were awarded points based on their final placing and the number of eliminations in each match.

The Wildcats will now enter the playoffs with 48 other teams this spring, with the dates to be announced later. Once again, points will be awarded to teams based on their final placing and the number of eliminations in each match. Those points will then determine the placing in the 2019 Fortnite Fall League Playoffs. The top 32 teams from the playoffs will then receive the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the finals.
