Wildcats Clobber Threshers at Home, 61-0 for Third Victory of 2024

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Earning its first shutout of the season, the Baker women's flag football cruised past conference opponent Bethel, 61-0 on Saturday night at Liston Stadium to move the Wildcats to 3-1 in their inaugural campaign.

BU scored a pair of touchdowns in each of the first three quarters, including a 21-point opening frame that saw Wildcats quarterback Gabriella Zabaletta toss all three scores. Defensively, the Wildcats allowed just 23 yards of offense and forced six interceptions.

Zabaletta linked up with receiver Kayla Harrison for the first of four touchdown catches for Harrison to open the scoring in the first quarter and added their second connection on the following possession to give Baker a quick 14-0 lead.

After Zabaletta spread touchdown passes around to Sanija Waller and Destiny Martinez, Waller put up the Wildcats' final score before halftime on Harrison's third touchdown grab of the opening half.

In the second half, Baker tacked on a couple more scores before Martinez came through with a pick-six to give the Wildcats a 55-0 lead heading into the final quarter. Zabaletta delivered one final touchdown pass, this time finding Faith Phillips to cap the scoring at 61 points for BU.

For the game, Zabaletta finished with over 150 yards (153) and racked up seven touchdown passes with Harrison hauling in four of them. Martinez turned in a solid defensive performance after she finished with a team-high six tackles and recorded two interceptions, including a pick-six.

After the Wildcats' midweek home match against Graceland was canceled, Baker will head out on the road for its next scheduled game with a matchup at Southwestern on Saturday, March 9 at 1 p.m.
