Wildcats Rebound with 26-8 Victory on the Road at Saint Mary

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - After suffering its first road loss of the season on Sunday, Baker women's flag football bounced back with a commanding 26-8 victory over Saint Mary on Wednesday evening.

The Wildcats took a 19-0 lead at halftime and held the Spires to just eight points for the second time this year to complete a regular-season sweep of the conference foe. BU defeated USM, 13-8 earlier this year in the Wildcats' program debut.

Sanija Waller ran for over 100 yards (103) and accounted for all four touchdowns with three of them coming on the ground and the other one being a 66-yard touchdown pass to Faith Phillips on the first play of the game.

After a long interception return from Jaylin Harris set the Wildcats up close, Waller punched it in on a short six-yard burst to put BU up, 13-0 early in the second quarter.

Waller and the Baker offense put together a more methodical drive late in the first half that resulted in Waller tallying her second rushing touchdown of the quarter, scoring on a big fourth-down play with less than 10 seconds left in the half.

The Spires got on the scoreboard midway thru the third quarter to cut Baker's lead to 19-8.

In the fourth quarter, BU sealed the game with a nifty bit of deception as Waller used a fake reverse to score the night's final touchdown.

With four of their wins coming away from Baldwin City, the Wildcats move to 6-2 on the season. They continue their midseason road gauntlet with a matchup at Ottawa on March 27 at 7 p.m. in Ottawa, Kan.
