Wildcats Fall on the Road at Ottawa, 54-0

OTTAWA, Kan. - Continuing its five-game conference road trek, Baker women's flag football fell to Ottawa, 54-0 on Thursday night to give the Wildcats just their second road setback of the 2024 season.

The Braves outscored BU, 34-0 in the first half before the 'Cats defense got a fourth-down stop to post a scoreless third quarter. OU tacked on three more touchdowns in the fourth to run away with the conference win.

Quarterbacks Sanija Waller (92) and Gabriella Zabaletta (18) combined to throw for over 100 yards (110) with Waller adding 39 yards on the ground. Destiny Martinez hauled in a game-high seven catches for 68 yards, while Zabaletta had five catches.

Facing a tough OU defense, the Wildcats were forced to punt on three of their six offensive possessions in the first half with three Braves interceptions halting the other three drives.

After stopping the Braves on fourth down near the goal line, an 18-yard pass from Zabaletta to Martinez gave Baker some breathing room midway through the third quarter. Needing nine yards to extend that drive, Jaylin Harris came up a yard short on a fourth-down play to give the ball back to OU.

Up next, Baker takes a break from KCAC action with a pair of non-conference games on Saturday, March 30 as the Wildcats face Fort Scott CC at 3 p.m., followed by Hesston at 6 p.m. with both games taking place in Hesston, Kan.
