Wildcats Shut Out Moundbuilders, 14-0 at Home in Regular-Season Finale

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Baker flag football finished off a terrific inaugural regular season with a 14-0 victory over Southwestern at home on Saturday afternoon to head into the postseason with an 11-4 record and a three-game winning streak.

Playing in warm, but windy conditions inside Liston Stadium, the Wildcats pitched their second shutout of the past three games and used a couple of timely touchdowns to close out the regular season with their ninth conference win of 2024.

After a scoreless first quarter, quarterback Sanija Waller and the BU offense orchestrated a 61-yard drive early in the second that resulted in Waller finding Faith Phillips for a three-yard touchdown to give Baker a 7-0 lead.

Holding the Moundbuilders to punts on their first three possessions, Phillips came up with a key interception late in the first half to preserve a 7-0 halftime lead for BU.

In the second half, the teams exchanged a couple fourth-down stops, followed by a three-and-out from the Southwestern offense that gave the Wildcats the ball at midfield to open the fourth quarter.

After Kayla Harrison extended the drive on a key fourth-down pick-up, Waller connected with Phillips for the second time on a 20-yard strike that cemented the KCAC victory for BU.

Waller threw for over 200 yards for the second time this season, going 24-for-47 for 226 yards with the two touchdowns. Harrison was a target machine for Waller, piling up 11 catches for 74 yards. Daniela Gonzalez-Takashima recorded six receptions for 72 yards.

The Wildcats closed out a 2024 regular season that saw them win five of their first six games and post a 9-4 record in KCAC play.

Baker will await for the final seeding of the KCAC Flag Football Championships which takes place on April 20-21 at Paragon Star in Lee's Summit, Mo.
