Wildcats Fall at Home to Ottawa in First KCAC Setback

BALDWIN CITY - After winning its first four games of conference play, the Baker women's flag football team fell in its home matchup against KCAC foe Ottawa, 24-12 on Wednesday evening at Liston Stadium.

With the Braves jumping out to an 18-0 lead in the first half, the Wildcats scored right before halftime and held OU to just one score in the second half, but couldn't muster up enough offense to climb out of the hole.

After stalling on its first two series, the BU offense broke through with an efficient drive late in the second quarter. Tara Llorente found Kaley Phillips for a couple of nice receptions with her latter one almost finding pay dirt, but she was ruled out at the one-yard line.

On the next play, Llorente hit Jaylin Harris in the back of the end zone to make it an 18-6 deficit with :30 seconds left before halftime.

Ottawa came up with a fourth-down stop on BU's first possession of the second half and followed it with a touchdown to go up, 24-6.

Facing a 4th-and-10 late in the fourth quarter, K. Phillips took a jetsweep handoff all the way in for Baker's second touchdown of the game as the final score settled at 24-12 in favor of OU.

Llorente finished with 142 yards through the air and totaled 31 yards on her four carries in the game. Gabriella Zabaletta had five catches for 46 yards and Sanija Waller gained 36 yards on four receptions.

Up next, Baker continues the conference homestand with a Sunday matinee against Bethel, starting at 1 p.m. on March 23 at Liston Stadium.
