Baker Flag Football Rolls Past Cottey on the Road, 33-0

NEVADA, Mo. - The Baker women's flag football team picked up its sixth conference win of the season with a dominating 33-0 victory over Cottey on Saturday in Nevada, Mo.

The Wildcats put up 26 points in the first half with Sanija Waller scoring back-to-back touchdowns in the first quarter on shovel passes and then hitting Faith Phillips for a big strike to start the second before Waller ran one to make it a 26-0 halftime lead for BU.

Waller went 16-for-24 with 214 yards and four touchdowns through the air, while adding seven rushes for 21 yards and a touchdown with her legs. Nine different Wildcats caught a pass in the game with Kaley Phillips hauling in a team-high four catches for 36 yards. K. Phillips also recorded her sixth interception of the season with a pick right before halftime.

On Baker's first drive of the game, Waller found Gabriella Zabaletta for quick shovel pass close to the goal line to put BU on the scoreboard.

It only took two plays for BU to score on its second possession with Mahagonay Simmons winding up on the end of another Waller shovel pass. This time, the shovel pass came from 37-yards out with Simmons corralling it and going against the shifting Comets defense to take it all the way in for the score.

The Wildcats scored on both the opening play of the second quarter and one of the final plays of the half with Waller contributing to both touchdowns. First, Waller found F. Phillips for a long pass on the first play of the quarter before taking one in herself on a nifty fake near the goal line with five seconds left in the first half.

Waller tacked on her fourth and final touchdown pass with a 12-yard score to K. Phillips in the fourth quarter, capping the 33-0 victory for the Wildcats.

With a 6-1 KCAC record, Baker will be back in action next with a matchup against the only team to hand BU a conference loss this season, traveling to Ottawa on Saturday, April 5 for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
