(RV) Wildcats Begin New Year with 95-77 Road Win Over Clarke

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Starting the second semester right where they left off, the (RV) Baker men's basketball team defeated Clarke on Tuesday evening, 95-77.

Quentin Harvey led the Wildcats in scoring on the night, going 8-for-13 from the field and 2-for-3 from the three-point line, scoring 20 points in the game. Braden Wiggs added 16 points, while Jalen Patterson and Joshua Kelly tacked on 14 and 11 respectively.

Baker was able to dominate the rebounding battle throughout the game, 56-27. Ty Henry led Baker with 10 boards, while both Harvey and Wiggs both just missed double doubles with nine and eight rebounds respectively.

Baker started the game strong, scoring nine of the first 12 points, capped off with a dunk from Korey Jones, forcing Clarke to take their first timeout less than two minutes into the game. After Clarke was able to tie the game at 12, neither team could pull away as Baker held a 33-32 lead at the first half media timeout.

With 4:05 left in the first half, Clarke was able to take an 11-point lead, 50-39, but Baker came roaring back and within just three minutes, the Wildcats had regained the lead on a huge three from Harvey, 53-52. Clarke would regain a one-point lead, but a basket from Justin Batts II with 13 seconds left gave the Wildcats a 55-54 lead at the break.

Baker was able to slowly stretch their lead to six points early in the first half as they led the Pride, 77-71 with 10:05 left in the game. Over the final 10 minutes of the game, Baker would give up just six more points, while rattling off 18 points of their own, going on to win the game, 95-77.

The Wildcats are now 10-3 on the season and sit at 5-2 in Heart of America play. They will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m., when they travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to take on Mount Mercy.
