Wildcats Earn Fifth Conference Win of Season With 79-69 Win Over Clarke

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Marking their fifth Heart of America Conference win of the season, the Baker men's basketball team took down Clarke on Saturday by a score of 79-69.

Baker was led in scoring by Quentin Harvey who had 21 points on 10-of-17 shooting, while Ty Henry, Korey Jones and Dylan Smith all also scored in double figures with 12, 11 and 10 respectively. Jones also tied for the team lead in rebounds with nine while Ahmed Mahgoub also pulled down nine rebounds.

In the game, the Wildcats shot nearly 50 percent from the field, going 31-for-63, while shooting an even 50 percent from three at 7-for-14.

Early in the first half, the Pride held onto a slim lead, but with 10:52 remaining until halftime, a layup by Harvey gave the Wildcats their first lead of the game, 19-18. Late in the half, the Pride took the lead back at 33-32, but a three from Noah Rigatuso and another layup by Clarke sent the game to halftime with the score tied at 35.

Baker came out hot in the second half, holding the Pride scoreless for almost four minutes as the Wildcats scored eight unanswered points to lead 43-35. Clarke was able to fight their way back into the game and eventually held a 47-44 lead with 13:54 to play.

Both teams battled back and forth for the next few minutes and with 9:25 left, Cason Richardson knocked down a huge three to give Baker a 58-56 lead. Baker continued to add to their lead and with 7:07 to play Baker had stretched their lead to double digits, 68-58.

Baker's lead got to as many as 15 points late in the game, but one final run from Clarke was not enough as Baker took down the Pride, 79-69.

The Wildcats are now 7-3 overall on the season and sit at 5-1 in Heart of America play. They will be back in action on Wednesday, December 6, when they travel to Peru, Neb., to take on Peru State at 7:30 p.m.
