
Wildcats Celebrate Conference Championship at Home, Defeat Benedictine, 89-70
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After clinching the team's first conference championship since 1989 on Saturday, the Baker men's basketball team did not let up on Wednesday evening, defeating Benedictine in front of a strong crowd, 89-70.
Baker had 11 players scored in the game, but Ahmed Mahgoub led the Wildcats in scoring off the bench, scoring 16 points, while Quentin Harvey added 14 and Kaimen Lennox tacked on 11.
Baker got off to a hot start in the game, jumping out to a six-point lead in the first two minutes of the game. Baker was able to stay hot for most of the half and eventually stretched their lead to as many as 17 points, but Baker would score just two points in the final 3:42 as Benedictine fought their way back as Baker took a 46-38 lead into the break.
Just like the first half, the Wildcats came out and quickly stretched the lead back to 15, but the Ravens would not go away without a fight. Benedictine clawed their way back into the game once again and with 8:40 remaining in the game, Baker led by just four points, 64-60.
From that point, the Wildcats took over the game, outscoring the Ravens 20-5 over the next seven minutes which put away the game, giving Baker the 89-67 win.
With the win, Baker is now 24-3 on the season and 21-2 in Heart of America play. They will close out the regular season on Saturday when they host William Penn at 2 p.m., inside the Collins Center for Senior Day.
