Women’s Bowling Places Fourth, Men Take Ninth at Baker’s Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge

LAWRENCE/TOPEKA, Kan. – Baker bowling played host to its first tournament of the 2023-24 season this past weekend with the Jayhawk Collegiate Challenge where the women finished in fourth and the men in ninth.

Playing at Gage Bowl in Topeka, Kan., the Baker women bowled a team total of 6,852, finishing behind first-place Wichita State (7,575), Ottawa (7,546) and Morningside (7,040).

Kinsey Miller led the BU women with a seventh-place finish among the event's 141 bowlers, tallying a tournament average of 187.8 with a 201 in her first game of the weekend. Hailee McCormick averaged 163.6 and placed 28th, while freshman Kaleigh Buckalew finished 65th with an average of 165.

On a men's side that bowled at Royal Crest Lanes in Lawrence, Kan., Tanner Eckerle and Brett Gamber finished back-to-back to lead the varsity squad with Eckerle averaging 178.4 and placing 44th and Gamber right behind him in 45th on an average of 177.6. Aidan Van Metre rounded out the top-50 after a total five-game score of 877 finished him 50th.

The Wildcats take a week off to prep for this next tournament with a trip to the annual Leatherneck Classic on Nov. 11-12 in Quad Cities, Ill.
