
Baker Golf Bags Three Titles at Hesston Spring Shootout
HESSTON, Kan. – The Baker men's and women's golf teams took home three of the four championships from the Hesston Spring Shootout this week with the BU women taking top honors in the team standings, while Gavin Dines and Izabelle Backstrom swept the individual titles.
The Baker women broke the program's 54-hole record after shooting a combined 979 for the tournament, winning the five-team women's field by a commanding 79-stroke margin.
The BU men actually finished tied with Bethany after 54 holes with both squads tallying matching scores of 901, triggering a playoff round that the Swedes claimed to give the Wildcats a runner-up finish.
Dines also delivered a record-breaking performance for the men's program, setting the individual 54-hole record with a score of 209 to top the 57-player leaderboard. He broke former Wildcat Mason Ahlberg's previous-best mark (215), which was set in 2019.
Backstrom shot a 234 to claim the women's individual by a stroke, posting back-to-back scores of 77 and 76 in Monday's opening rounds.
The Wildcats had four other golfers finish in the top-11 of the women's field with Paula Martin-Montero and Reagan Kauth sitting in consecutive spots. Martin-Montero totaled a score of 242 to tie fourth while Kauth placed sixth on a score of 251. Madison Zubeck came in ninth after shooting a 259 and Ally Laverty followed in 11th with a 264.
Drew Lisec joined Dines in the top five on the men's side, marking an overall score of 227 to tie for fourth. Keegan Feder shot even-par in his second round in Hesston and finished with a 233 to place 15th. Ben Lemke also shot even-par in his second round on Monday and tied for 22nd with a 237.
With the conference tournament on the doorstep, Baker closes out the 2025 regular season with the Park Spring Classic on April 7-8 at The Bluffs at the National Golf Club in Parkville, Mo.
