Kamaras’ Hat Trick Fuels Wildcats’ 4-1 Victory Over Pride

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Gyorgy Kamaras bagged his second hat trick of the year to lead Baker men's soccer to a 4-1 win over visiting Clarke on Saturday night in Baldwin City to close out Homecoming weekend for BU.

With the score level at halftime, Kamaras and the Wildcats surged ahead with three second-half goals to keep BU unbeaten against Heart opponents this year with a 2-0-1 conference record.

In a match that featured 15 bookings, the Wildcats played most of the second half with a man-advantage and eventually ended up with an 11v8 situation when the game was well in hand.

Baker boasted a 16-9 favor in shots, while the Pride totaled 10 corner kicks in the game. Kamaras recorded eight shots en route to his hat-trick performance while Hunter French added a couple of shots on goal, including one that found the back of the net for the game's first goal.

In the 19th minute, a ball played forward by Falco Dijkhuis was collected by Kamaras who quickly found French in the box and the senior from Manhattan, Kan. delivered an ankle-breaking deke on a couple of Pride defenders before blasting in his fifth goal of the season to put Baker up, 1-0.

Clarke would equalize on a corner kick in the 38th minute as its entry found the foot of CU's Alejandro Valverde who was able to knock a ball that looked to be saved by the BU defense, but the ball was ruled to have just crossed the goal line to draw the match even at 1-1.

Just a minute out of halftime, Kamaras went right to work on his big second half after controlling a beautiful lob pass sent forward by Dijkhuis set the BU forward up nicely on the far side of the box. Then, Kamaras made a man miss to create an open look and fired home the game-winning goal to put Baker on top, 2-1.

The Wildcats maintained a one-goal lead until they added a couple of late goals in the final ten minutes of action to pad their conference victory. Kamaras tallied his second goal of the game in the 81st after cleaning up a rebounded shot by Kaden Keller to stretch the lead out to 3-1 before capping the match a couple minutes later on a nice one-timer from teammate Mo Salas.

Dijkhuis earned two assists in the match for his first career multi-assist game at BU, while Mo Salas' dime gave him a team-high four assists on the season. Kamaras, who also chipped in an assist to total seven points in the match, now has 11 goals on the year and has scored in three straight matches for BU.

Up next, Baker takes on Culver-Stockton in a road matchup on Saturday, Sept. 30 with kickoff from Canton, Mo. set for 5 p.m.
