Wildcats Fall in Road Match at Grand View, 3-0

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Baker men's soccer team fell in its conference road match at Grand View on Saturday, 3-0, marking the first time this season the Wildcats have been shut out by a Heart opponent.

The Vikings scored a goal in the first half and added two more in the second half with their senior forward Jayce Berger netting all three goals.

The Wildcats created their fair share of chances in the match, finishing with a 10-9 advantage in shots and a 5-2 margin in corner kicks. Axxel Chazaro-Lara, Gyorgy Kamaras and Hunter French each put up two shots in the match with Chazaro-Lara and French having one of theirs land on goal.

Grand View tallied the game's opening goal in the 20th minute with Berger scoring unassisted. Shortly after that, Kamaras logged his two shot attempts with his final one coming on a shot in the 39th that went right of goal.

In the 40th minute, the Wildcats strung together a few scoring opportunities with Yushann Malcolm's shot missing wide, but resulted in a BU corner that turned into another off-target shot by the Wildcats, this time coming from Mo Salas.

After going into halftime trailing by a goal, Baker continued to hound the GVU defense, looking for the equalizer. Within the first 13 minutes of the restart, the Wildcats earned a couple of corner kicks and totaled four shots during that stretch with a header by Falco Dijkhuis and a shot by French ending up as saves for the Vikings goalie.

The Vikings increased their lead in the 66th minute with Berger finding the back of the net on a pass from Rune Petersen.

Then, in the final stages of the match, Grand View capped its night with a penalty kick taken by Berger to seal the Vikings' 3-0 win.

After playing three matches last week, Baker gets a midweek break this week and returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 21 to face Graceland for Senior Night at 7:30 p.m. at Hartley Field in Baldwin City.
