Wildcats Roll to Third Straight Win with 8-1 Victory over Mission

BALDWIN CITY - After winning all but one of its first six out-of-conference matches to start the year, Baker men's soccer closed out its non-conference slate with an 8-1 victory over Mission on Tuesday night at Hartley Field.

The Wildcats put up four goals in each half and finished with seven different players tallying a goal in the match with a brace from Dennis Vollmer going down as the only multi-goal performance for BU.

It was a game of season-high marks for the Wildcats with the eight goals doubling their previous best and the 31 shots serving as their most shots in a match since last year's meeting between the two teams where Baker launched 36 shots in a 13-0 season-opening win.

Baker's leading goal scorer Reilly Marlow-Jones started the offensive explosion with a goal in the 20th minute off of a pass from Ian Waindim. It was the sixth goal of the year for Marlow-Jones who recorded goals in back-to-back games for the third time this season.

Waindim set up the Wildcats' next goal just a few minutes later, this time finding freshman striker Jim Hendrix to make it a 2-0 lead for BU in the first 25 minutes of play.

After the Patriots scored their lone goal in the 28th, Vollmer notched the first of his two goals with a ricocheted shot from Marlow-Jones winding up in the lap of Vollmer who ushered the ball into the back of the net.

Finishing off Baker's four-goal first half was Dylan Traudt whose tap-in in the 39th minute gave the sophomore from Olathe, Kan. his second goal against the Patriots after scoring in last year's match as well.

Abdul Rahman Jalloh and Parker Hurla both scored within the first 20 minutes of the second half with Jalloh knocking one in to push the Wildcats' lead to 5-1, while Hurla tallied the second goal of his fall with a score in the 70th minute.

In the 79th minute, Vollmer secured his brace with a goal in the box after some nifty one-touch passing from Traudt and Fin Gaywood. Joaquin Munoz capped off the night with a goal in the 84th to seal Baker's third straight victory.

It was the first goals of the season for Jalloh, Traudt and Vollmer, while Gaywood, Waindim and Easton Bradstreet each had multiple assists in the match.

Moving to 8-2 overall on the year, Baker will jump back into Heart action with a matchup against Central Methodist on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Baldwin City.
