BALDWIN CITY - Baker men's soccer's Reilly Marlow-Jones was named Heart Freshman of the Year and joined two other Wildcats - Falco Dijkhuis and Akira Itadani - in earning all-conference honors as the league announced its 2024 Heart All-Conference Teams and postseason awards on Wednesday afternoon.
Along with his Freshman of the Year award, Marlow-Jones was selected to the All-Heart First Team, while Itadani landed on the second team and Dijkhuis was named to the third team.
In his first season at Baker, Marlow-Jones led the team in all major offensive categories with 10 goals, eight assists and 28 points, playing in all 18 games for BU during the regular season. His 10 goals tied for third-most among all Heart goal scorers and he was second in the conference in assists. The forward from Wellington, New Zealand had four games this year in which he had both a goal and an assist and had a four-match scoring streak that stretched from late September to early October.
Fellow Kiwi newcomer Itadani appeared in every match, but one this season and finished second on the team with 12 points on four goals and four assists. Hailing from Dunedin, New Zealand, Itadani scored Baker's second goal of the year in a 2-0 season-opening win over No. 23 Union.
Dijkhuis, a senior from Groningen, Netherlands, started all 18 games in the BU backline that posted six shutouts this season, including back-to-back clean sheets to close out the regular season. The captain has made 44 consecutive starts dating back to 2022 and has four goals and three assists in his four-year career at Baker.
The Wildcats finished off the regular season with an 11-6-1 overall record, posting their most wins since 2019 and went 5-5-1 in conference play to earn the fifth seed for the Heart Tournament.
Baker will take on No. 4 MidAmerica Nazarene in the first round of the 2024 Heart Men's Soccer Conference Tournament, presented by WinWon, today (Nov. 6) at 1 p.m. in Olathe, Kan.
