Women Win Third Consecutive Match, 4-2, Men Fall to Jewell, 4-3
LIBERTY, Mo. – Winning their third straight match, the Baker women's tennis team defeated William Jewell on Friday, 4-2, while the men lost to the Cardinals, 4-3.
No. 1 and No. 2 doubles each came away with wins on the women's side as Kayelee Smith and Cortlyn Wolfe defeated their opponents, 6-0. Patricia and Josephine Moore also posted the shutout in doubles, defeating their opponent 6-0 as well.
In singles, Wolfe and Patricia Moore were able to come away with big wins, while Taylor Jarvis won No. 5 singles by default. With a default by both teams as No. 6 singles, Baker was able to come away with their third straight win, 4-2.
On the men's side, Baker picked up the doubles point after No. 2 doubles of Marcus Elsey and Carson Fitzgerald defeated their opponent 6-4, while No. 3 doubles of Max Hovorka and Davis Steadman won by default.
Steadman was able to earn a point at No. 6 singles by default, but the only other win would come from Elsey who was able to win No. 3 singles for the Wildcats. Falling just short, the Wildcats lost to William Jewel on Friday, 4-3.
The women are now 5-2 on the season and the men are 1-6. Both teams will be back in action on Feb. 20, when they host Rockhurst University at 2:30 p.m., in Lawrence, Kan., at the Genesis Health Clubs.
