Women's Tennis Picks Up Two Big Wins Last Weekend, Men Finish 0-4

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – With four matches in four days, the Baker women's tennis team posted a 2-2 record this past week, including a win over NCAA Division III Webster University, while the men posted a record of 0-4.

The women started out with a big win over Webster University, 6-3. At No. 1 doubles, Cortlyn Wolfe and Chassidy Weathers came away with a win, while the No. 2 doubles team of Patricia and Josephine Moore won their match and earned the doubles point. In singles, No. 1 Cortlyn Wolfe, No. 3 Chassidy Weathers, No. 4 Josephine Moore and No. 5 Carolina Porto-Ferraz all won their matches and helped Baker to a 6-3 win to start the weekend.

After a big win to start the weekend, Baker faced off with UHSP. Baker took the doubles point in the match as Patricia and Josephine Moore won No. 2 doubles and Ciarra McWilliams and Cambrie Frame took No. 3 doubles. Moving into singles matches, No. 4 Josephine Moore, No. 5 Carolina Porto-Ferraz and No. 6 Cambrie Frame won their matches to defeat UHSP, 4-3.

With two big wins under their belt, the Wildcats lost to NCAA Division II, Lindenwood by a score of 7-0. Baker then traveled home and then faced off with Ottawa University. Despite winning No. 3 doubles by default, Ottawa was able to earn the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead.

Baker lost No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles, but Josephine Moore, Porto-Ferraz and Frame each won their matches, but the Wildcats fell just short as Ottawa won the match, 4-3.

The Baker men had Alejandro Hernandez and Davis Steadman competing at No. 1 doubles, while Ang Nguyen and Kyler Kosanke competed at No. 2 doubles. Hernandez played No. 1 singles, Steadman played No. 2 singles, while Kosanke and Nguyen played No. 3 and No. 4 singles respectively.

Nguyen and Kosanke were able to win their doubles match against Webster, but gave up the doubles point. Hernandez picked up a big win at No. 1 singles, but the Wildcats lost the final five matches to fall to Webster, 6-1.

Finishing off the weekend, Baker lost their next three matches against UHSP, Lindenwood and Ottawa by scores of 7-0.

Both Baker tennis teams will conclude their home schedules on April 9, when they host both Missouri Valley and Evangel. Baker will take on Missouri Valley at 10 a.m. After a senior recognition ceremony between matches, Baker will take on Evangel at 2 p.m.
