Baker Tennis Recognizes Seniors as Women Take Down Evangel on Saturday

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – On a day in which the Baker tennis teams celebrated three outstanding seniors, the women went 1-1 on the day, while the men went 0-2.

In between matches, the Baker tennis teams recognized three seniors that have had a tremendous impact on the Baker University tennis program and have helped grow the program throughout their time at Baker. Those seniors include, Cortlyn Wolfe, Patricia Moore and Josephine Moore.

On Saturday, morning, the teams faced off with Missouri Valley to start the day. After dropping No. 1 and No. 2 doubles, Carolina Porto and Cambrie Frame picked up a win at No. 3 doubles, but Missouri Valley took the doubles point heading into singles.

Cortlyn Wolfe was able to pick up a big win at No. 1 singles and both Carolina Porto and Cambrie Frame also had wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, but the Wildcats fell just short of the Vikings, 4-3.

On the men's side, both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles played close matches, but Missouri Valley was able to come away with the win. In singles, the men battled, but lost all four matches and the Vikings won the match, 7-0.

Moving into the afternoon matchup, the tennis teams took on Evangel. Baker was able to win all three doubles matches as No. 1 doubles of Cortlyn Wolfe and Chassidy Weathers won 6-1, No. 2 doubles of Patricia and Josephine Moore won 6-4 and No. 3 doubles of Carolina Porto and Cambrie Frame won 6-2 as Baker took the doubles point.

Despite dropping No. 1 and No. 2 singles, Chassidy Weathers, Josephine Moore and Carolina Porto won at No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 singles to give Baker a strong 4-3 win over Evangel on Saturday.

On the men's side, Evangel won both doubles matches to win the doubles point, and then won all four matches in singles, despite a strong performance from Alejandro Hernandez who lost 4-6, 6-3, 8-10.

Both Baker tennis teams will be back in action on Tuesday, April 12, when they travel to Sterling, Kan., to take on Sterling College at 2 p.m.
