Women Defeat Tabor, 6-1 on Wednesday, Men Fall, 6-1

LAWRENCE, Kan. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Baker tennis teams took on Tabor College, where the women defeated the Bluejays, 6-1 and the men lost, 6-1.

Chassidy Weathers and Dayne Steadman teamed up at No. 1 doubles and defeated their opponent by a score of 6-1. Carol Feraz-Porto then partnered with Ciarra McWilliams at No. 2 doubles to win their match, 6-0 and after a default win for Cambrie Frame and Jordan Grabast at No. 3 doubles, the Wildcats won the doubles points and took a 1-0 lead.

Baker lost only one match during singles as Weathers fell 6-7 and 3-6. Steadman then won her match at No. 2 singles, 6-1 and 6-3, while Feraz-Porto won 6-3 and 6-1 as Baker lead, 3-1.

After a win at No. 4 singles from Cambrie Frame, 6-3 and 7-6, Baker picked up two more wins by default for McWilliams and Grabast as they defeated Tabor, 6-1.

On the men's side, Alejandro Hernandez-Carreno and Fabian Martinez lost their No. 1 doubles match, 6-0. Davis Steadman and Juan Manuel Avila then battled hard a No. 2 doubles, but ended up falling 6-4. After a loss by Anh Nguyen and Kyler Kosanke at No. 3 doubles, 6-1, Tabor held a 1-0 lead over the Wildcats.

Hernandez-Carreno then picked up a big win at No. 1 singles by scores of 6-3 and 6-3, but Baker would lose the rest of their matches as Tabor went on to win the dual, 6-1.

Both teams will be back in action this Friday and Saturday when they travel to Winfield, Kan., to compete in the Tiger Jinx Invitational.
