Baker Tennis Teams Commence 2024 Spring Season
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - Competing in its first full weekend of competitions for the spring, the Baker men's and women's tennis teams wrapped up a Nebraska trip where the Wildcats played matches against Midland, Concordia and Hastings this past weekend.
After both teams fell in their matches at William Jewell at the beginning of the month to start the spring season, the Wildcats dropped matches to Midland and Concordia before the men closed out the weekend with a 7-0 win against Hastings.
Dayna Steadman won her last two individual matches of the weekend for the women's team with a tough three-set win against Concordia, followed by a pair of 6-0 wins in her outing at Hastings on Sunday.
On the men's side, Corvin Christ and Juan Manuel Avila each picked up wins for BU in Saturday's match against the Bulldogs. Then, on Sunday, the Wildcats swept the Broncos in straight sets in all but one of the individual matches with River Flaska, Fabian Martinez and Jack Forrest all chipping in wins alongside Christ and Manuel Avila.
Up next, the Baker women will host a home match with Sterling on Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. at the Genesis Health Clubs - South in Lawrence, Kan., while the men will play a pair of matches against Central College and Northwestern on Feb. 24 in Pella, Iowa.
