Bio

Ryan Pitts enters his ninth season as a coach at Baker University, serving the last eight years as the head track and field coach. He was promoted to Director of Cross Country and Track and Field prior to the 2022 season.

During his tenure, the program has won two conference championships, while producing 42 individual conference champions, 23 All Americans, one National Champion, and established 26 new school records.

Pitts was named USTFCCCA Men’s Outdoor Track and Field South Central Regional Coach of the Year in 2016 as well as earning Heart Coach of the Year honors after the Wildcats won the conference outdoor title that season.

In 2019, Pitts coached a national champion in Moses Watson who won the men’s 3,000-meter racewalk at the NAIA Indoor Championships and boasted a Wildcats squad that collected a total of eight All-America honors at the NAIA Outdoor Championships. Baker finished among the top three in all four of the conference championships in 2019 with both teams placing third in the team standings at the Heart Indoor Championships, while the men finished second at the outdoor meet and the women came in third.

In his first season as head coach in 2015-16, Pitts led the Baker men’s program to sweep the conference championships after claiming both the indoor and outdoor titles. The Wildcats earned All-America honors in three events at the NAIA Outdoor Nationals.

Returning to campus in 2014, Pitts spent one season as an assistant coach for the track and field program while also serving on the BU football coaching staff as the wide receivers coach.

Before coming to Baker, Pitts served as the head girls track and field coach at Warren High School in Downey, California, from 2010 to 2012 and was the assistant track and field coach at North Torrance High School in Torrance, California, from 2007 to 2010.

Before his coaching career, Pitts was a two-sport athlete at Baker University playing both track and field and football, earning All-American honors in football as a wide receiver and was a three-time national qualifier in track and field.
