Pair of Top-Four Finishes Highlights Wildcats’ Trip to 101st Kansas Relays

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Isaiah Howard (110H) and Aidan Massey (10K) each came away with a fourth-place finish as the Baker track and field teams traveled up the road to compete in the 101st anniversary of the Kansas Relays this past weekend at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kan.

Overall, the Wildcats posted 12 top-10 finishes in their final road meet of the regular season with Gage Hiebert adding a sixth-place showing in the men's javelin.

After his preliminary time secured his spot in Saturday's finals, Howard ran a wind-aided 14.91 to place fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. In just his third competition of the outdoor season, Howard has back-to-back top-four finishes after winning the 110m hurdles at Emporia State's Midwest Classic last week.

Massey broke the school's 10K record with a time of 31:25.19 and finished fourth overall in the event, but was the first collegiate runner to cross the finish line. Massey, a junior from Olathe, Kan., passed Liam Barnsby's mark (31:30.08) from the 2021 Heart Championships.

Hiebert took sixth in the javelin with his best mark of the day coming at 56.46 meters.

Jaden Vohs finished eighth in the 1,500m, keeping close to his season-long pace at 4:06.53. Haley Carter (40:17.53) and Ellie Barnard (42:23.74) finished in back-to-spots in the women's 10K with Carter taking seventh and Barnard in eighth.

The Wildcats had a trio of top-10 finishes in the 3,000m steeplechase races with Christopher Jackson (10:14.54) placing seventh and Wyatt Allen (10:24.90) following in ninth on the men's side. Jana Landreth came in seventh in the women's event with a time of 12:31.44.

Dontez Carr hit his best distance of the season in the men's triple jump with his leap of 13.64 meters putting him ninth overall in the event.

In the women's javelin, Julie Coffey rounded out the top-10 with her best throw of the day coming in at 36.10 meters.

Up next, Baker hosts the first of back-to-back meets this upcoming weekend with the ZK Invite, currently, scheduled for April 27 at 10 a.m. in Baldwin City.
