Wildcats Commence Outdoor Campaign in Lawrence and Leavenworth
LAWRENCE/LEAVENWORTH, Kan. – The Baker track and field teams opened up their 2025 outdoor season by splitting up the weekend with the Wildcats competing at both Saint Mary's Spire Distance Carnival and Team Challenge and the Jayhawk Spring Fling, hosted by Kansas.
With the Spires meet being a two-day event that started on Friday, the Wildcats had highlights in the men's field events and women's mid-distance group.
Kameron Glasper won the men's shot put with his best distance coming at 14.04 meters and added a third-place outing in the discus with a throw of 43.41 meters. Rachel Sterner placed ninth in the women's 800-meter race on a time of 2:33.34.
Along with some field events, the Wildcats sent their sprints and hurdles groups to Lawrence, Kan. for KU's outdoor opener on Saturday, where the gusty wind conditions prevented countable marks for a majority of the events.
The BU men had top-five finishes in five different events with Eithan Kodger placing third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:00.60) and fourth in the 110m hurdles (16.30). Jacob McGlasson (53.27) and Cutter Meade (53.57) finished in back-to-back spots in the 400m with McGlasson taking fourth and Meade following in fifth.
Caleb Nelson marked a distance of 56.13 meters in his first time throwing the javelin this season, boasting the conference's second-best mark here in the early spring.
On the women's side, Londyn Cage claimed runner-up honors in the 100m hurdles (16.05) with teammate Samantha Cook (20.33) finishing behind her in third. Hannah Jensen went 5.41 meters and took third in the long jump, while adding a fifth-place finish in the triple jump (10.11m).
Alexis Summers recorded the fastest time of the BU contingent in the 200m with her time of 25.04 earning her third in the event. Shanniel Graham went 26-flat and placed fourth.
In the women's javelin, Julie Coffey came in fifth on a throw of 37.04 meters, which ranks second on the Heart's performance list.
Up next, Baker will host the first of its two home track meets of the year with the 2025 Wildcat Classic on Saturday, March 29. The meet will kick off at 10 a.m. inside Liston Stadium.
