Men’s Wrestling Begins 2023-24 Season Playing Host to Dan Harris Open

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Baker men's wrestling opened up its 2023-24 season with nine top-three finishes – including four individual titles – at the Wildcats' annual Dan Harris Open on Sunday at the Collins Center.

Dallas Koelzer (149), Joey Hancock (165), Brett Bober (184) and Malachi Karibo (197) each won their respective weight divisions with all four wrestlers going undefeated in their first outing of the year. Bober, Hancock, and Koelzer all had four wins, while Karibo went 3-0 in his matches at 197 pounds.

Saoul Prado and Joseph Triscornia both earned runner-up honors with Prado winning by fall in his first three matches at 125 pounds before being edged out on a 5-3 decision in the championship match. Triscornia went 2-1 in his matches in the 141-pound bracket with a 6-2 decision placing him in the title bout.

Nikolas Slatoff (149), Jakob Stovall (157) and Kevin Lund (184) added the third-place finishes for BU with Stovall claiming five wins in the 157-pound division and Slatoff going 4-1 in his matches at 149 pounds. Lund earned a pair of pins in his matches in the 184-pound bracket.

Also wrestling at 184 pounds, Roman Bushek finished in fourth for the Wildcats after winning three of his matches on the day, including a major decision victory in the consolation semifinals.

The Wildcats head out for their next early-season tournament with a trip to Grimes, Iowa to compete in the Grand View Open on Saturday, Nov. 11. at 9 a.m.
