Men’s Wrestling Competes at Grand View Open

GRIMES, Iowa - Heading out on the road for the first time this season, the Baker men's wrestling sent a total of 16 wrestlers to compete at the Grand View Open this past weekend in Grimes, Iowa where the Wildcats earned two top-three finishes.

Nikolas Slatoff won five of his six matches to finish with runner-up honors in the Freshman/Sophomore division at 149 pounds. In his first two tournaments this year, Slatoff has posted a 9-2 record after going 4-1 and placing third at Baker's Dan Harris Open in the season opener.

Malachi Karibo took home third place in the open division of the 197-pound bracket after winning five matches, including four straight wins to close the tournament with a 5-1 decision in the placement match.

Also competing in the open division of their respective weight classes, Brett Bober (184), Joey Hancock (165) and Dallas Koelzer (149) each picked up at least two wins apiece with Koelzer going 4-2 before bowing out in the fifth round of the consolation bracket at 149 pounds.

Saoul Prado (125) and Joseph Triscornia (141) both picked up four wins in Iowa as well with Prado winning his first three matches in the Fresh/Soph division at 125 pounds and Triscornia winning four straight before falling out in the 141-pound consolation bracket of the Fresh/Soph division.

The Wildcats continue with their early-season tournaments with a trip to the Younes Hospitality Open, hosted by Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 9 a.m. in Kearney, Neb.
