No. 20 Baker Takes Down (RV) William Penn, 24-22 in Dual Opener

OSKALOOSA, Iowa – The No. 20 Baker men's wrestling team defeated Heart of America opponent (RV) William Penn by a score of 24-22 on Tuesday night in BU's opening dual of the 2023-24 season and earned head coach Tyrone Lewis' first dual win as a Wildcat.

The Wildcats took six of the 10 matches with four wins by major decision and a tech fall by Kevin Lund to escape with a two-point victory in the neck-and-neck conference dual.

Saoul Prado tallied the first major decision for BU in the opening bout at 125 pounds, winning 10-1 to give Baker the early lead. Joseph Triscornia (141) and Nikolas Slatoff (149) added a pair of wins with Triscornia tacking on another four points with an 11-1 victory in his match at 141 pounds and Slatoff defeating WPU's Quinten Aney, who ranks 13th nationally.

Trailing 16-11, the Wildcats rattled off three straight wins to storm back and secure the match with Joey Hancock (174) and Brett Bober (184) both winning by major decision before Lund sealed things with a huge 17-1 tech fall victory in the 197-pound match.

Up next, Baker gets back into tournament action with the Doane Open this weekend as the single-day competition kicks off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 in Crete, Neb.
