Lund, Prado Titles Highlight Wildcats’ Outing at Doane Open

CRETE, Neb. – Boosted by a pair of individual titles from Kevin Lund and Saoul Prado, the Baker men's wrestling team earned six top-six finishes at the Doane Open on Saturday in Crete, Neb.

Lund and Prado each won all five of their matches on Saturday with Prado winning all but one of his matches at 125 pounds by decision, while Lund totaled an impressive four pins, including a pin in the second minute against Grand View's Carter Smuck in the championship bout of the Amateur 197-pound bracket.

Brett Bober placed second in the open division of the 184-pound bracket after winning his first two matches of the tournament by pin before falling on a close 8-4 decision in the championship bout that featured the eighth-ranked Bober going up against No. 5 Tyson Beauperthuy of Doane.

Nikolas Slatoff added a second-place finish after winning his first four matches in the Amateur 141-pound division. The sophomore grappler from Henderson, Nev. secured his spot in the title match with a 17-5 major decision victory in the semifinals before falling to conference opponent Elijah Larsen of Grand View in the finale.

Joey Hancock and Jakob Stovall both picked up sixth-place finishes with Hancock going 4-2 in his matches in the Open 165-pound bracket, while Stovall won his first two matches by major decision before eventually falling in the placement match on a 6-3 decision.

Also wrestling for BU were Joshua Broyles, Elijah Eslinger and Joseph Triscornia with Broyles and Triscornia combining for five wins in the tournament.

Up next, Baker will compete in a conference road dual for the second straight week with a set of duals at Benedictine on Saturday, Dec. 9 in Atchison, Kan. where the Wildcats will face off against the Ravens and top-ranked Grand View.
