Men’s Wrestling Splits Saturday Duals at Benedictine

ATCHISON, Kan. – No. 18 Baker men's wrestling claimed seven of 10 matches to come away with a 38-11 victory over Benedictine and earn a split in its conference tri-dual with the Ravens and top-ranked Grand View on Saturday in Atchison, Kan.

After falling to the Vikings in the first dual of the day, the Wildcats came back with four pins in the second dual and captured a big win over the Ravens for BU's second conference dual win of the season.

Saoul Prado kicked off the match against Benedictine with a pin at 125 pounds before Joseph Triscornia (141) and Nakaylen Shabazz (149) added back-to-back pins to give the Wildcats an 18-4 lead through the first four matches.

Jakob Stovall and Joey Hancock each won their bouts with Stovall earning a tough 4-1 decision at 165 pounds, while Hancock cruised to a 17-1 tech fall win in the 174-pound match. Hancock had Baker's lone victory in the dual against Grand View, tallying a 12-4 major decision to open up a 2-0 outing for the senior grappler.

Coming off a week in which he earned Heart Men's Wrestler of the Week honors, Kevin Lund capped Baker's victory with a pin at 197 pounds to give the freshman from Glenpool, Okla. three wins in his first four collegiate duals.

The Wildcats move to a 2-1 dual record through the early part of the 2023-24 season and boast wins over Heart of America teams Benedictine and William Penn.

Up next, Baker will compete in the Avila Duals on Saturday, Dec. 16 with matches against Indian Hills CC, Avila, Waldorf and Concordia, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Mabee Fieldhouse in Kansas City, Mo.
