Men’s Wrestling Competes at Missouri Valley Open

MARSHALL, Mo. – Heading into the final stages of the 2023-24 season, Baker men's wrestling competed at the Missouri Valley Open on Saturday in the Wildcats' final regular-season tournament of the year.

Overall, the Wildcats had 14 wrestlers in action in Marshall, Mo. with Kevin Lund (197) and Ben Stubblefield (133) advancing the furthest for BU with both grapplers bowing out in the fifth round of their respective consolation brackets.

Lund and Stubblefield each won three matches with Lund pinning two of his opponents in the 197-pound bracket and Stubblefield picking up a close 7-6 decision in the consolation fourth round at 133 pounds.

Wrestling at 149 pounds, Joshua Broyles went 3-2 in his matches with a pin and a tech fall in his first two bouts of the tournament. Nakaylen Shabazz added a couple more wins for BU in the 149-pound division with a couple of pins over conference wrestlers.

Jonah Muhammad started off his tournament with back-to-back wins at 157 pounds with a pin in his first match, followed by a tech fall before falling in sudden death in the quarterfinal round. Jacob Catagas delivered a pair of pins in the 174-pound bracket before ending his tournament in the consolation third round.

With the Heart Championships coming up in mid-February, Baker will close out the 2023-24 regular season with a home dual against Saint Mary's set for Saturday, Feb. 10. The dual will take place at approximately 7 p.m., following Baker women's wrestling's Wildcat Duals being held that same day in the Collins Center.
