Wildcats Post Five Top-Three Finishes at 2024 Dan Harris Open

BALDWIN CITY - The Baker men's wrestling team began its 2024-25 season playing host to the 2024 Dan Harris Open on Sunday in the Collins Center where the Wildcats earned four top-three finishes, including a pair of runner-ups.

Overall, the Wildcats had 20 wrestlers competing in their annual home tournament with a total of eight teams and a tournament field of over 150 wrestlers hitting the mat in Collins.

Jonah Muhammad and Christian Nishi-Rivera each came away with second-place showings in the season-opening tournament with Muhammad taking second in the 157-pound bracket, while Nishi-Rivera was the runner-up at 133 pounds.

Saoul Prado won four of his five matches in the 125-pound bracket, using a tech fall in the placement match to place third overall in the tournament. Nikolas Slatoff took third at 149 pounds with five victories in his first outing of the season. Kevin Lund won his final two matches to place third at 197 pounds, putting together back-to-back wins to come away with a top-three finish.

Freshman Noah Sample started the day with back-to-back wins before finishing fourth in the 165-pound bracket. Nakaylen Shabazz went 3-2 in his matches at 133 pounds, bowing out in the consolation semifinals.

Up next, Baker will host its first dual of the season with William Penn coming to town for a wrestling doubleheader in the Collins Center on Thursday night. The women's dual will kick things off at 4:30 p.m. with the men's dual to follow.
