Both Cross Country Teams Take Home First Place at Mike Spielman Classic

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – On Friday evening, the Baker cross country teams hosted the inaugural Mike Spielman Classic and both teams came out on top, winning first place.

On the women's side, the Wildcats posted a team total of 38 points, finishing just in front of MidAmerica Nazarene who scored 43 points. Baker posted an average time of 20:48.85 in the race.

Their top finisher was Brooke Allen who posted a time of 20:03.67 and was followed by Haley Carter who took fourth place with a time of 20:20.98.

Valeria Aceves-Power finished third for the Wildcats and scored eight points with a ninth place finish, while teammate Kristi Chambers scored 11 points with a 13th place finish. Rounding out the scoring for the Wildcats was Jana Landreth who finished 15th and scored 13 points for Baker.

The Baker men also finished in first place, scoring 40 points and defeated second place Central Methodist by 12 points. The Wildcats ran an average time of 28:30.06.

Adriel Hinojos was the top runner for Baker, running a time of 27:55.46 and taking home seventh place to score five points. Max Dutton was not far behind, posting a time of 28:31.89 and scoring seven points with a ninth place finish.

Josh Weghorst and Luke Persson finished in 10th and 11th, while Christopher Jackson finished 14th score eight, nine and 11 points respectively for the Wildcats.

Both Baker cross country teams are back in action on Nov. 5, when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the 2022 Heart of America Conference Championships.
