Men’s Cross Country Takes First at Haskell Invite, Women Finish Third
RESULTS
LAWRENCE, Kan. – With a total time of 25:38.85, the Baker men's cross country team won the 8K Haskell Invite, while the women's team placed third in the 6K race to give the Wildcats a pair of top-three finishes at the Saturday morning meet, held in Lawrence, Kan.
The men's team totaled 65 points to finish ahead of runner-up Rockhurst (68) and fellow Heart of America teams Park (90) and Central Methodist (91).
Anthony Davis paced the Wildcats after clocking a personal-best 26:20.09 to place fifth, while three other Wildcats finished among the top-15 with Zain Khan (26:49.58) and Chris Jackson (27:00.30) crossing back-to-back in 10th and 11th and freshman Davin Johnson (27:15.24) coming in 15th. Wyatt Allen (27:41.85) was the final point-scorer for BU after finishing in 24th.
The women's squad finished with 58 points, same as Rockhurst, but the Hawks won the tie-breaker to earn runner-up honors.
Brooke Allen picked up a fourth-place finish on a 6K time of 23:24.30 to lead the Wildcats. Haley Carter (23:41.23) and Peyton Petersen (24:14.26) were next to cross for Baker with Carter coming in ninth and Petersen in 13th. Jana Landreth (24:29.83) and Kristi Chambers (24:34.99) rounded out the scoring in a solid all-around performance from the Wildcats.
Baker will close out the regular-season portion of its 2023 campaign by hosting the Mike Spielman Classic on Friday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. out at the Baldwin City Golf Course in Baldwin City.
