Wildcats Sweep Mike Spielman Classic to Close Out 2023 Regular Season

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Baker men's and women's cross country teams claimed first place in both races of the Mike Spielman Classic on Friday to conclude the regular season portion of its 2023 campaign.

With pristine fall conditions at the Baldwin City Golf Course, the BU women clocked a total time of 2:06:23.48 to win the women's 6K race, while the Wildcat men totaled a team time of 2:18:05.99 to take top honors in the men's 8K.

Brooke Allen (24:07.16) and Anthony Davis (26:50.53) each picked up second-place finishes to lead the Wildcats.

Allen was joined in the top five by teammates Haley Carter (24:49.26) and Natalie Kennedy (25:35.10) with Carter finishing behind Allen in third and the freshman Kennedy taking fifth place. Jana Landreth ran a 25:49.55 and placed seventh, while Peyton Peterson (26:02.41) rounded out the scoring after coming in ninth.

Following Davis on the men's side, Zain Khan marked a time of 27:20.95 which placed him seventh and Chris Jackson closed out the top-10 after crossing the finish line at 27:44.96. Davin Johnson (27:52.27) and Joshua Presley (28:17.28) finished 11th and 13th, respectively, to cap Baker's scoring.

With the regular season coming to a close, the Wildcats will turn their attention to the conference meet with the 2023 Heart of America Cross Country Championships set for Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at Seminole Valley Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
