Women’s Cross Country Takes Third, Men Finish Fifth at Heart Championships

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Baker cross country picked up a pair of top-five finishes with the women's team claiming third place and the men finishing in fifth at the 2023 Heart Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

With the conference race being a 6K for the first time, the Wildcat women earned their second top-three finish at the Heart meet in the past three races after totaling a score of 88 points to finish behind league champion Benedictine (28) and Mount Mercy (77).

Brooke Allen placed fourth among the nearly 100 runners in the event to take home first team all-conference honors for the second straight year. She ran a personal-best time of 22:51.6 to lead the Wildcats, while teammate Haley Carter also was a top-15 finisher after running a 23:30.9 to place 14th and earn honorable mention honors.

Peyton Peterson and Natalie Kennedy were the next scorers for BU with Peterson (24:11.7) placing 22nd and Kennedy (24:20.0) following close behind in 25th. Kristi Chambers rounded out the scoring with a 24:40.3 pace to finish 30th overall.

In the men's race, Anthony Davis was first to cross for the Wildcats after marking his fastest 8K time of the season at 25:49.9 to place 12th. Joining Davis with honorable mention honors, Zain Khan finished in 15th after running a 25:53.6.

Chris Jackson ran a personal-best 26:35.5 to finish 26th and Davin Johnson clocked a 26:44.0 to follow in 32nd. Wyatt Allen capped the scoring for Baker with his time of 27:03.3 placing him 37th.
