Baker, Bray, and Gorrell Earn NFCA All-Region Honors

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Following the team's first trip to the NAIA World Series in program history, the Baker softball team had three players named to the NFCA All-Region V Team this past week.

Those student-athletes included Kira Baker, Savannah Bray and Skylar Gorrell. Baker and Bray each earned first team honors, while Gorrell was named to the second team.

Kira Baker earned first team honors after finishing the season with a record of 24-3 in the circle, racking up 19 complete games and two saves. In her 176 innings pitched, Baker tallied 314 total strikeouts which ranked third in the entire country and amassed an ERA of 0.64 which ranked second in the country.

With 19 complete games, Baker threw six no-hitters and threw two perfect games on her way to being named the Heart of America Freshman of the Year and earning First Team All-Conference honors.

Savannah Bray also earned NFCA First Team All-Region honors after helping the Wildcats to a strong season. Bray played in all 59 games for the Wildcats this season and led the team in multiple categories including hits (55), home runs (11) and batting average (.329).

Bray also finished second on the team in RBI with 38, while finishing third in doubles with nine. Bray also earned Heart of America First Team All-Conference honors this season.

The final honoree to the NFCA All-Region team was Skylar Gorrell who earned second team honors. In the circle, Gorrell had an extremely strong year, throwing 138.2 innings on the year and posting a record of 14-5 with one save and 11 complete games. She was second on the team with 120 strikeouts and had an ERA of 1.36.

Gorrell also contributed in the batter's box as well, hitting .281 on the year with six doubles, one triple, five home runs and 20 RBI. Along with Baker and Bray, Gorrell also earned First Team All-Conference honors a few weeks ago.

These three incredible student-athletes helped the Wildcats to help tie the program record in wins at 47, going 47-12 on the year and making the team's first appearance in the NAIA World Series in school history.
