Kira Baker Collects Second Straight Heart Pitcher of the Week Award

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. - For the second straight week, sophomore hurler Kira Baker was selected Heart Softball Pitcher of the Week following her performance in Baker's four-game sweep of its conference-opening weekend this past weekend.

Baker helped lead the Wildcats to a thrilling 3-1 victory in extra innings over No. 16 Grand View on Friday before picking up her second win of the weekend with a 4-1 victory against Culver-Stockton on Saturday where she matched her season-high with 11 strikeouts. Overall, she totaled 15 strikeouts and allowed only one earned run in her 15 innings in the circle.

The lefty from Eudora, Kan. has continued where she left off following a sensational freshman debut last year. She has racked up 82 strikeouts already in just 65.2 innings, while boasting a 0.53 ERA and three shutouts this season. As a freshman, she earned First Team All-American honors and received both the NFCA's and Heart's Freshman of the Year award.

Baker and the Wildcats will head out for their first road matchup against a Heart opponent this season with a showdown at No. 3 Central Methodist set for Friday, March 29 at 12 p.m. in Fayette, Mo. BU will then host its Senior Day on Saturday, March 30 with a home doubleheader versus Benedictine starting at 12 p.m.
