One-Hitter Helps Wildcats to Doubleheader Split vs. Morningside

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – After dropping game one of the doubleheader, 6-1, the Wildcats bounced back in a big way to split the doubleheader against Morningside with a 3-0 win in game two.

Tess Eubank got the start in the circle in game one, throwing all seven innings and striking out four batters. Offensively, Baker had five hits in the game as Madi Ball led the team with two hits and drove in Baker's only run of the game.

Morningside got on the board first with a solo home run in the top of the second to take a 1-0 lead, but Ball tied it up at one in the bottom of the fourth with a solo shot of her own.

Baker would go scoreless for the rest of the game as the Mustangs scored one run in the fifth, three runs in the sixth and one more in the seventh to win the game, 6-1.

Kira Baker took the circle in game two and threw a gem, allowing just one hit and striking out nine batters. Braxton Strainbrook picked up a multi-hit game and drove in a run, while Reese Curry drove in Baker's other two runs.

After a scoreless tie for the first 3.5 innings, Curry doubled to left-center to score two runs and give Baker their first lead of the day, 2-0. Just two innings later, Stainbrook doubled to centerfield to score another run as Baker went on to win, 3-0 and split the doubleheader with Morningside.

Baker is now 9-8 on the season, they will be back in action on Tuesday, March 4, when they host Missouri Baptist at 12 and 2 p.m.
