
Late Run Comes Up Short, Wildcats Fall to Culver-Stockton on Saturday, 82-72
CANTON, Mo. – Despite winning the third and fourth quarter, the Wildcats could not overcome a 54-35 deficit as they fell to Culver-Stockton on Saturday, 82-72.
Baker's Alyssa Morris knocked down seven field goals, with six of those being three-pointers to lead the Wildcats with 22 points. Sophia Barrett and Destiny Kiner also reached double figures in the game with 18 and 15 points respectively. Both Barrett and Morris pulled down a team-high five boards while Kiner led the team with seven assists.
Culver-Stockton picked up a slim lead to start the game, but Baker quickly got right back in it and eventually tied the game at 18 with 2:26 left in the first quarter. After a bucket by Culver-Stockton, Kiner drilled a three on a pass from Rihanna Blanchard to give Baker their first lead of the game, 21-20. C-SC quickly went on a small run, but another three from Morris tied it again at 24, but a three at the other end sent Baker to the second quarter trailing by three, 27-24.
The biggest portion of the game came in the second quarter as Baker scored just 11 points in the quarter while Culver-Stockton scored 27 points to take a commanding 54-35 lead into the break.
Baker came out with energy in the third quarter trying to mount a comeback and with 4:31 left in the quarter, a layup from Harley Baker cut the lead to 13 and forced Culver-Stockton to take a timeout. Before the end of the quarter, the Wildcats had cut the lead down to 11, but a jumper at the buzzer for Culver-Stockton send the game to the final quarter with Baker trailing 69-56.
With 3:41 left in the game, Morris hit back-to-back three's to cut the lead to just six points, and after a free throw from Taniya Tease Baker would trail by five, but that is the closest Baker would get as they fell to Culver-Stockton, 82-72.
Baker is now 1-5 on the season and 0-4 in Heart of America play. They will be back at home on Tuesday, Nov. 26, as they host Peru State at 5:30 p.m., inside the Collins Center.
