Wildcats Fall Just Short in Road Clash With Central Methodist, 65-61

FAYETTE, Mo. – Taking the lead late in the game, the Baker women's basketball team couldn't pull off the win on Wednesday, falling to Central Methodist, 65-61.

Alyssa Morris posted a game-high 26 points in the game, while Destiny Kiner and Sophia Barrett added 11 and 10 points respectively. Baker knocked down eight three-pointers in the game, with four of those coming from Morris.

A bucket by Kiner with 2:30 left to play in the first quarter tied the game at 10, but Central Methodist was able to go on a quick run to take a 15-12 lead into the second quarter of play. It then took Baker almost three minutes to knock down a field goal in the second quarter, but three three-pointers from Morris and one more from Sophia Barrett helped give Baker the 32-30 lead heading into halftime.

Baker was outscored in the third quarter 25-16 and the game went to the fourth quarter with the Wildcats trailing 55-48. After Central Methodist stretched their lead to as much as 11, the Wildcats came roaring back and back-to-back buckets from Morris gave Baker a 60-59 lead with just 2:49 left to play in the game. On the next possession, CMU regained the lead. Baker had a chance to tie the game with 20 seconds left but could not get the bucket to fall as Baker lost the game, 65-61.

The Wildcats are now 1-8 on the season and 0-7 in Heart of America play. They will be back at home on Saturday, December 14, when they host Grand View at 2 p.m., inside the Collins Center.
